Hi I’m Amy! I work with passionate businesses to transform their branding from uncertainty - into a complete brand they are confident sharing, and is beautifully designed and consistent at every touchpoint.

I started Begin Studio with an idea - to create a thoughtful and friendly studio that can be a one-stop solution for all your design needs. I love creating bold packaging, crafting brands that balance fun and professional, and building bold websites with playful details. I always collaborate closely with my clients so we can create a thoughtful and detailed brand truly reflects you, your values and your goals.

I started Begin in Edinburgh back in early 2020, but now I live in the Netherlands with my husband, our daughter and our cats Sookie and Archie. Even though I live in Europe, the majority of my clients are US businesses - with the rest of my clients coming from the UK, Australia and beyond!

eXPERIENCE - My journey to Begin Studio:
4 years of art school

My time studying Graphic Design at Edinburgh College of Art was a blast. I got to choose what I worked on, I experimented with screen printing, letterpress, darkroom photography, and illustration. I loved pushing the boundaries of my work and collaborating with other students. I even took a semester abroad in Baltimore where I developed my love for typography and branding. I learnt skills that I use daily to approach my projects with curiosity and creativity.

5 years of agency and industry experience

In 2015, three days after graduating, I started my first job as a junior designer at an Edinburgh design agency. Then in 2017, I switched roles to work as an in-house designer for a large Scottish hotel chain, before becoming a middle-weight designer at a second Edinburgh design agency in 2019.

I loved working as part of a team in agency, but I wanted to be able to connect directly with clients, define my own process and work with businesses that I felt passionate about. So in early 2020, I founded Begin Studio. Now I work with businesses and entrepreneurs all over the world, offering my thoughtful and collaborative process to a collection of fun, passionate and caring businesses and entrepreneurs.

  • Tending to my ever-growing collection of indoor plants.

  • Listening to podcasts while I work on my branding projects (Shameless is my current obsession!).

  • Sharing a croissant with my infant daughter on my days off.

  • Reading fantasy books by the fire with my cat Sookie (named after Sookie St. James from Gilmore Girls) and Archie, our young little bundle of mischief.

  • Cooking plant-based foods and drinking oat milk lattes.

  • Walking, camping, hiking - anything that can take me outside! Bonus points if I get to be in Scotland.

  • Travelling - especially exploring the Netherlands or going back to Scotland to reconnect with my friends and family.

With over 12 years in the industry and a healthy chunk of agency experience, I have worked in almost all design areas and can be a one-stop solution for your business.
